Montships was born out of the Montreal Shipping Company Ltd, which was originally founded in 1925. As WWII ended and vessels owned by the Canadian Government were retained under the Canadian flag and sold to Canadian interests.
As a direct result of discussions held between Gianni Procacci who was President of Louis Dreyfus & Cie of Paris, Billy Mills of MSCL on 20th February 1946, Montship Lines Ltd was created.
In 1951 the management of the Montship fleet was transfered to the Louis Dreyfus subsidiary, Buries Markes Ltd of London.
